I tried out two of these, one from amazon and one from the military exchange. The 1st one, from the exchange didn't work properly. The egg didn't light up the proper color, but I liked the idea of the temperature monitor so much that I returned that one and ordered a new one from amazon. The one from amazon worked like it was supposed to but after listening in on my 20 month old for 3 minutes horrible loud shrilling static would emit from the monitor for about 60 seconds or so. And it did this every 5 minutes! My husband and I would rush over from playing outside with our 5 year old to "TURN IT DOWN!". Needless to say, it was very loud and annoying and I wanted so bad to keep it but I cannot handle the frantic search for the volume every time I use it. It did this the next 3 days too, even when inside. Maybe it was just that particular one, I don't know but I didn't risk another one!

I have yet to find a baby monitor, ANY baby monitor that satisfies. This one is far from even being in the running. Maybe it's that our house is fairly spread out but it had a lot of static, interference, and squealing moments. The test didn't last long. It failed. I thought the colored egg might be helpful. It didn't seem to have a very accurate temperature reading. I say no-go all around on this one. Safety 1st has been our best bet with baby monitors and even those have their issues.

this monitor's sole buying feature is the temperature reading. the only other one i could find on the market was about $120, which is more than what we wanted to pay. we've had this summer infant securesleep for about 2 years and it worked fine for about a year and a half, then the sound started going crazy. now all it does is buzz at an annoyingly loud volume or go completely mute. we didn't mind about the volume not working now that our child is a toddler, but now that we have another baby we're going to buy another one of these to replace our old one. the temperature monitor is really great if you need to monitor a room that can get too hot or cold, though it seems to run about 2 degrees warmer than the actual temperature. (we know this b/c we also keep a fancy digital thermometer in the room.) the color change is also great b/c in the middle of the night (w/out my glasses) i can just glance over and see what color the monitor is to know if the room is a comfortable temp.
